Victoria Cross Gallery
Rare high quality Victorian embossed scraps from a set of 12 entitled 'The Victoria Cross Gallery'. They are in very good unused condition. The series was painted by the celebrated artist, Harry Payne. Manufactured & published by Birn Brothers (fine art publishers, London) in 1880s. The scraps portray the Heroes of the Victoria Cross shown in twelve reliefs. The reliefs are of the various deeds of daring and valour perfomed by Britain's soldiers from the Crimean War and published in Commemoration of Queen Victoria's Jubilee. They all have the Harry Payne signature near the bottom right hand corner.
They are all approximately 16 cms x 12 cms.

Three Harry Payne Embossed Scrap/Pictures from the Victoria Cross Gallery
They are in excellent condition. Portraying:
1. Lieutenant Herbert T. McPherson (Adjudant) charging up a street in Lucknow at the head of the 78th Highlanders to capture the enemy's guns. (Siege of Lucknow)
2. Sergeant Joseph Malone, 13th Light Dragoons, remaining by the side of Captain Webb, 17th Lancers, although himself wounded during the Charge of The Light Brigade at Balaclava Oct. 1854.
3. Lieutenant Reginald C. Hart, Royal Engineers, defending a wounded Sowar (Lancer) of the 15th Bengal Lancers, from a host of Afghans who had attached a baggage train
They are approximately 15.5 cm x 12.5 cm, with the cream surround they are 24 cm x 16 cm.
